About Us
The Shawnee Mission Islamic Education Center (SMIEC), an IRS 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, is registered in the State of Kansas. We have completed the remodeling work, and our new Masjid Maryam opened its door for Salat-al-Jum’ah on September 18, 2020. As the pandemic situation improves and restrictions are lifted, we will begin our full schedule of activities.
Our Vision
SMIEC will serve as a central resource for meeting the religious and educational needs of
Muslims residing in the northcentral and western Johnson County, Kansas and neighboring communities.
Our Mission
- SMIEC will offer Islamic religious services to area Muslims.
- In addition, it will provide assistance to area youth and adults for successful career by providing:
- English language instructions (ESL)
- Counseling to high school students to prepare them for college
- Guidance in competing for educational scholarships
- Tutoring in English, Science, and Math. to improve their chances for attending higher education institution
- Offer weekend Islamic academy for children
